Quilted stem cells
I don't know if this looks much different but it is now quilted with a layer of wool batting behind, with very close quilting in the background red areas so there is somewhat of a trapunto effect. I also painted a little more with some golden fluid acrylic glazes to give a little more transparent shading.

echo!!! I had seen the earlier post but had not entirely realized what you had done here...it is WOW!
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing! I would love to see in person, I'll bet that it would "knock my socks" off.
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful. The color and the shading---I am transported.
ReplyDeleteQuestion: the one time I used wool batting and machine quilting I had wool peaking out through the threads. It was commercial cotton so perhaps you are using a tighter weave? Or does the painting keep that from happening?
I tried to get the inks from the local artist supply and they had no experience with them--no golden fluid glazes either. A source???
what an amazing piece judy!I love it
ReplyDeleteI have never had a problem with wool coming through. I think it is probably because the fabric I use has a tighter weave. All my fabric is either hand dyed or painted from test fabrics or P&B pfd.
ReplyDeleteYou can get Tsukineko inks at webofthread.com or jukeboxquilts.com.
I am loving your Cell series. Wonderful!
