Thank you so much for all the words of support and encouragement, I appreciate it so much. I am blessed to have so many wonderful friends and kindred creative spirits in my life. I needed to find perspective over the last week and realize that although times are difficult, I am not alone and things could always be worse and for that I am extremely grateful.
I am also grateful I put in an order to upgrade my phone a week ago, because I managed to drop my existing one in the toilet saturday night. I was wondering if this was the universes way of diminishing some of the guilt I was feeling about spending money on an upgrade right now even though my phone was cracked, lol.
I made a point of taking a much needed break from obligations this weekend to make some art and process the turmoil I've been going through. It's always the best way for me to work through things and come out the other side in a stronger more positive place. I've had so little time to make art this year, this is much over due.
The illustration above is a small detail of an image I am drawing on fabric with Copic markers. This is intended to be a base image that will probably end up pretty obscured once I start painting. It's a pretty elaborate drawing to end up covered up, but that's ok, I am hoping little bits will show through here and there in the finished piece. The important thing is it's part of the catharsis, the imagery and symbolism I put into the work helps me to take the intentions in like a meditation and lift my spirit.
I'll post more pics as I make progress.
When life gets easy, then I get confused and lost, lol.
ReplyDeleteIt is the trials of life that bring out the creativity in us and I am an eternal optimist;) I have learned to enjoy the little things in life and have found I am much happier and content.

So glad that you found some art time. I am looking forward to seeing you in Houston. Hang in there. Hopefully, your bump in the road will smooth out.
ReplyDeleteWell done being able to find some time to create... it's so very calming. Awesome drawing..
ReplyDeletehugs
The drawing looks like the chambers, aorta, etc., of a heart to me. It's beautiful and very unique. I'm glad you are feeling somewhat better. Wendy, Debi and I still talk about the fun we had with you and Nina in St. Paul. Keep well.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the illustration! YES, make time for art -art making does heal. Is that a heart I see popping through the growing vine...? All will be well, you are gifted and you have friends who care.
ReplyDeleteTimes of trouble can be times of growth. Managing our own reactions is the key. Your strength and determination will pull you through to happier times. For now, the small joys of life can be a means to make it through each day. For me, nature and family bring me back to what's really important. Take care Judy.
ReplyDeleteOooo copics on cloth. I've been wanting to try this and I did a bit of research. There wasn't much, but what I found seemed to suggest that copics don't act like copics on cloth and will wash out. Now I can understand that an art piece won't be washed, but is there a way to make the ink more permanent?
ReplyDeleteHang in there Judy.
ReplyDeleteI always try to remember that we have to have shadow in order to more fully appreciate the light. Easier said than done for sure.
I love the aorta looking design your working on !
I'm always inspired by how you channel your turmoil through symbolism into art that is not just beautiful and meaningful, but therapeutic. I wish you well and hope you are soon through this. Glad you have Houston to look forward to!
ReplyDeleteAnd funny, my old cell phone took that same unfortunate swim a few months ago -- with the same result!
thanks everyone!
ReplyDeleteJennifer, I think Copics are fairly permanent on fabric, my theory is when in doubt, iron it! That will set almost any stain, lol.
I've been without a personal computer for about a month so catching up on my fave blogs has been exciting. I'm delighted to see you're working on one of my favorite subjects - anatomy -- with Copic pens - something which piques my interest. However I'm very sorry to hear about your turmoil and wish you all the best with getting through. It's always nice to have art or music to fall into and it makes it so much more meaningful when we drag our lives along with us.
ReplyDeleteWhat I always wonder, when I hear of these things, is: HOW do phones get dropped in toilets?
ReplyDeleteA bathroom seems a rather, um, unlikely place to hold a conversation.....???? Or the place to set your phone down.....

My bluetooth earpiece once actually got flushed down the toilet never to be retrieved. I was at a rest stop on the expressway. There was no where to put my purse so I put it on top of the toilet paper holder. I stood up, my purse fell over. Many items hit the floor. My bluetooth went into the toilet. And the toilet were automatic flush so it started flushing as soon as I stood up. Away went my bluetooth earpiece.
ReplyDeleteWell Raven it was late saturday night and I pulled down my jeans and it slid right out of my back pocket and into the toilet. Usually I have a protective case on my phone, but it had cracked and so I just had my phone in my pocket and with that curved slick back...no traction.
ReplyDeleteI've had my phone in a bag of rice to dry out and it has turned on a couple times but doesn't seem to hold a charge, so for the time being I am phoneless ;-(
I have done the same with my walkman. Race in from weeding and listening to Clarissa Pinkola Estes and PLOP! So embarassing. I am so saddened to hear that life is giving you lemons. I wish I could harness the crone powers to banish the bad things from the lives of people I care about. You are loved and a trip to Houston to reconnect to those women who lift your spirits is the best prescription. Sending you love, laughter, and hope. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing piece! I thought it was an old illustration of a heart when I first saw it. I recently read a quote I love: "I just want to make beautiful things even if no one cares." A little time to make art for yourself is very refreshing! Best wishes.
ReplyDeleteI am anxious to see how this sketch develops...Copic markers are quite the rage here now. I see a heart here.... of course I see hearts everywhere because I am a heart surgery survivor. Very Intriguing. Peace, Mary Helen Fernandez Stewart
ReplyDeleteYour blog and artistry bring such grace and smiles into my life during the bright and dreary times. Please know that during your time of turmoil there are many of us who care. Peace to you.
ReplyDeleteOh Judy, I'm just reading through blogs for the first time in a bit, I'm so sorry to year you're in a rough patch, but it also sounds like you're finding your way back out again. I'm sending good vibes your way!
ReplyDeletethe best thing to do is art when things go south, alot easier said than done sometimes but you look like you are working thru it successfully...good for you. i am always inspired by your work, keep on producing. xo
