Time for healing and support

I know my blog posts have been a little sporadic lately, I don't know about you, but it feels like there is a lot going on in my life right now. One of the things I have been preoccupied with is my friend Melly Testas health, I would love for all of you to keep her in your thoughts and prayers over the next few months as she goes through treatments for breast cancer. She is such a giving beautiful soul and I think giving back to her this way is the least we can do.

Now the latest Fiber Art for A Cause fundraiser One organized by Virginia Spiegal hits even closer to home for us fiber artists, with one of our nearest and dearest presently battling the disease herself.
Bluebird

It occurred to me, that the two mixed media fiber art pieces I made for the auction, now have so much more significance for me not only because my good friend Melly has cancer, but also because both of my collages have bird imagery on them and those of you who know Melly and are familiar with her work, know that she adores birds. This simple synchronicity warms my heart.

So please mark your calendar on Februry 16 to make a bid on a peice of artwork and contribute to this very worthy cause.

  3. Hiya please pass on my warmest thoughts for Melly during her journey. One of the pieces of advice I was given through my own journey was to allow myself to have bad days. Please tell her the same.
    many hugs Annette

  8. Dear Judy, I have been spending a great deal of time today discovering your blog. I am a watercolor artist in downstate Champaign-Urbana and have seen your work in CPS magazine. Your art makes me happy--the colors sing and the detailing is amazing. There is a delightful combination of whimsy and soul. I am grateful that you share your talents and processes with us. Lately I've been doing watercolors with a Tree of Life theme, and am interested in trying a paper quilt. Can you recommend a book or source to give instructions?
Best of luck with your art and thoughts and prayers your way as you help your friend through her cancer treatment.

  9. thanks Barbara,

I would recommend the book Stitch Alchemy by Kelly Nina Perkins, its all about combining paper and fabric for quilted and stitched projects. Kelly's work is bright, colorful, festive and gorgeous. You can check out her blog at http://ephemeralalchemy.blogspot.com and also look at Jane LaFazio's work at http://www.JaneVille.blogspot.com

  11. Judy, I cried after reading your post. ONE has, indeed, taken on a more personal meaning with the news about Melly. The fact that your pieces include birds is so perfect.
Each of my pieces is a love letter to Melly, as well as other loved ones who have done battle with cancer. I know you feel the same way.
