Lark Prize Bonanza!

While I have been buried in a pile of paper work this week, I received a wonderful distraction, a big box filled with books from Lark Publishing for my prize from the "Quilt it" contest. This is great there are several books in here that have been on my wish list for some time, so I look forward to a little time to peruse those lovely colorful pages.

In the mean time I am preparing kits, writing an article, modifying supply lists and preparing for my trip to New Zealand. I am so excited to be going on my first teaching adventure abroad! I will be teaching two workshops in Auckland for the quilt guild the last weekend of April and then traveling to Palmerston North for their Tote and Gloat Quilt Symposium the first weekend in May to lecture and teach. I wish I had a travel companion to explore the country side between these two locations, it looks extraordinary. I would love to drive and stop where ever I want to see things but I am afraid to drive on the opposite side of the road with no one to remind me to keep the car where it belongs. Maybe I will get brave...

  1. I'm so excited for you! For the books but also for your upcoming international adventure. A trip halfway around the world--who knows what exciting creative things will be stirred up.

  2. Congratulations!! You deserved a big box of LOVE ;o) Grab your favorite beverage, have a seat and now peruse your treasure trove!

  3. It isn't that big of a deal driving on the other side of the road. Just always follow someone. I also try to remember that sitting in the drivers seat, I need to be closest to the middle of the road. If I wasn't already heading to Hong Kong I would so love to join you! If you decide to take a trip over to Australia let me know, though, as I may very well be there.

Have fun. I have never been but have heard it is a wonderful country. Just go for it. Rent a car & drive. In Australia I generally find that Avis is the best on prices. Might be the same there. After all, it is just across the pond from Australia :)

  4. Wow! Nice collection! Enjoy!

  5. Quite the haul! You deserve it.

  6. Judy, what a wonderful collection, congrats. As for the driving, it would be an incredivle trip. Think of the photo opportunities and all that they could inspire. Just go for it, you are an intelligent, powerful woman who can do whatever you set out to do especially driving on the opposite side of the road.

  7. What a great collection of books!

And lucky you to be going to NZ, it looks like such a beautiful country. You'll have to brave the driving so you can get out and about and soak it all in.

When we were in England years ago, I found that the opposite driving quickly felt natural because the steering wheel is placed opposite too, and your brain quickly adapts to that version of normal. It'll be a great new adventure!

  8. Judy! New Zealand is beautiful and I'm so thrilled for you. what an exciting trip! and congrats on the prize book haul!

  9. Be brave and give the driving a try. You can do it!

What a great haul of books. I've read a number of these and loved them. You will have lots to read on your plane ride to NZ. Enjoy!

  10. Lucky girl. Take your courage and do it!!! Have a wonderful time!

  11. Hi Judy,

I'm from New Zealand, and know you will find the narrow, winding, one-lane roads a challenge. Have you considered a tour? There are bus tours that you might find a more relaxing and enjoyable way to see the country - they would take you from A to B and let you do your own thing when you get there.

Also - it'll be cold - you'll need layers of woolen clothing and warm footwear!

But, it's a beautiful country to visit,

  12. Well, very fine work !
