Wednesday morning, Leslie, Jamie and I packed a van and a car full of quilts, suitcases and supplies for teaching and headed to Long Beach to check in to the hotel and hang The Space Between exhibit they curated.
We hung 40 quilts in record time, it probably helped that I'm so tall I could skip using the ladder and toss the hanging things over the top of the rods and adjust the quilts.
Without the AC on in the convention center it gets pretty warm on set up day. After several hours of hanging and adjusting the alignment of all the quilts, we were pooped.
The view from the convention floor.
We were thrilled to catch up with Pokey at the end of the day.

A deer in the road
My friend Jamie Fingal, sent me these photos form Road to California this weekend showing my Deer quilt hanging in the Solid Expressions exhibit.
I think it coordinates very nicely with the lovely traditional patchwork next to it.
Thanks Jamie!

Atlanta Airport Exhibit
As I sat in the Atlanta airport Monday morning waiting for the thunderstorms in the mid-west to die down enough for my flight to take off, I happened to come across this fabulous little exhibit. How cool to see a few Jane Burch Cochran quilts up close. That was a great distraction from the frustration of hearing that my flight had been delayed again.
If you click on the Found Objects sign it should pop up large enough to see the other exhibitors.

Unfortunately Lucky Shie's quilts were in another part of the airport, but there was a cool paper quilt made from postage stamps in a trip around the world pattern, as well as baskets made from camera negative film and soda cans.

Women Packing Irons Reception
Here's Anne, Frieda and I before the reception started. Ann and Laura were off teaching and Emily had not yet arrived. There was a very good turn out and I was too busy chatting to remember to take other photos. The Quilt National Exhibit is really good, one of the best collections of work I have seen in several years. If you are in Illinois, I would highly recommend getting over to Bloomingdale to see the show.

Hanging with the Chicago School of Fusing
Today the Chicago School of Fusing hung a show at the Bloomingdale Park District Museum that will coincide with an exhibit from Quilt National. It was a fun morning with lots of laughter, gorgeous quilts and flying hammers. Followed by lunch chatting about blogging, teaching and traveling in this new economy where airlines are unstable and charging extra for baggage. Imagine how much harder it is for busy traveling teachers who fly with several bags that tip the scales getting to their venues when airlines are also canceling flights.
From left to right, next to me is Anne Lullie, Frieda Anderson, Laura Wasilowski, Emily Parson and Anne Fahl. The hammer came in handy, I only had to threaten them a little to let me hang my quilts with theirs.

It's a lovely exhibit. If you are in the area July 20th stop by the reception, it would be nice to say hi.Wednesday, March 05, 2008

Pressing Matters II - Chicago School of Fusing
The Faculty of the Chicago School of Fusing returns with new, exciting compositions featuring the work of Frieda Anderson, Ann Fahl, Melody Johnson, Anne Lullie, Emily Parson, Judy Coates Perez and Laura Wasilowski. Each artist dyes her own fabrics, and has created her original designs using fusing as the construction technique. In addition to creating beautiful quilts and teaching at the Chicago School of Fusing, the faculty has also participated in challenging sporting events as members of The Iron Maidens.
